tell me i'm mad or i've just fallen
stake talent night ytd! and the toa payoh ward performance was awesome-ness as usual... no surprises there :D haha. i like 3rd ward's dancing and bobbie and jon's popping! brother and sister combinations really bring out style! haha. woodlands ward put on quite a funny skit too based on 8 types of pple they don't wanna date.
prior to the talent night... zhiling, wenjie, trent, casey and i met at church to practise like mad to try and pull off the superman cum collide number. haha. and we also happened to watch a number of episodes of prince of tennis during that time. wenjie was so late! u made us wait for 1 hour till 3pm! haha. this is why... its always a problem working with church ppl cos we tend to forgive each other so easily for all our mistakes. haha. but that's good! :)
OHHHH!!! YESTERDAY AND TODAY MADE ME REALLY HAPPY!!! heh :D
and i've finally finished mary jane's full transcription :)
stupid migraine. and it has to happen during the exams. must be the exams... so... STUPID EXAMS! so this is one COMMON (cos kandace and marion are also having migraines) tell tale sign that the Singapore education system has many flaws. and its already apparent anyway with all those school dropouts and suicides. and its supposed to be for the betterment of the future. bahh.
well... least its over. for now...
awesomeness. stake talent night tmr! :D
Bro. Petersen gave a wonderful fireside after church today and it really sent a strong message to me about friends and about being a friend. what is it to choose good friends and what is it to be a good friend? Bro Petersen's definition was: a good friend should be one that does not forcibly cause one to go against their standards and everyone's a friend until they show otherwise.
he further went on to talk about the influences of friends upon each other and about how language has been so contorted in this day. but the particularly interesting part about the fireside to me was the fine line that separated swearing and what really makes a swear word.
swearing doesn't just include the vulgarities of a culture. those are just words that are part of the culture around us. swearing really is when we exhibit the angry passion of the moment inside us verbally. other than that, these words are just inherent in the culture we live in because of the influence of friends whom we think we don't want to look bad in front of so we conform because we don't want to offend others (which is really helping them).
according to Bro. Petersen, 'flip' is a Utah swear word. sounds really like an ordinary word huh? but more often than not it's really a swear word on the basis that it is used in situations when anger and any other feeling becomes so 'passionate' and is not stoppered. but that's just in Utah, at least they found a more pleasantly sounding substitute but its all the same and doesn't differentiate the emotions that are there before someone actually uses a swear word that is globally acknowledged. and u'd wonder how some swear words became universal things.
after this, u'd probably be thinking that 'hey! then what are we supposed to be used if we have to constantly face the adversity today of such emotions?!' but then... why find substitutes to display and vent ur anger? why not just CONTROL ur anger? figure out the best way to vent ur anger in the forms of ur past times so that u don't feel all those pent up emotions become troublesome to deal with.
wenjie and i were very wu liao today. we went to the zoo and met kan and had ben&jerry's at $3 (since all those zoo pple get discounts). oh... and thanks again kan! :D haha. we checked out e place (well... just the entrance area) cos we havn't been there in like years (erm... last time i went was in primary school? haha) the place looks kinda modernized if you tell me. doesn't look like the jungle-infested-ish sort of zoo. we found out that we didn't know quite some bit about animals after looking through this pamphlet that they had which was meant for kiddos to go take walks in the zoo and find out the answers to the questions. haha.
on the way back... i saw a peculiar sight. for those who stayed in the west before and know where bukit panjang is. u know the train tracks there and the junction where the cars rarely have to stop when a train comes. well... it was one of those rare moments a train (or just a carriage) was passing through and the huge metal things of e jingies would come down. this time one of them didn't come down and the guy managing e switches came running out and kicked the metal thing of e jingie. haha. but the funny thing was e way he ran back and forth. looked like some orc or sth all clumsy like like some behemoth of some sort.
Fireside. the messages were wonderful. the few things that really hit me were:
1. that there will always be problems in the families because Satan cannot have one (so true... haha. Satan is a loser)
2. the 5 Cs of President Monson: Covenant, Staying Committed to the Covenants made, Celestial Marriage, Children and Bringing them unto Christ
and you look back at the messages shared and go... aren't we all
SO blessed after hearing the examples of those who are quietly suffering and are so much more disadvantaged but still have an unbelievable amount of faith compared to us who are having it easy?
i need pimple cream! or sth that can magically destroy and remove pimples!
stupid pimple on my right thigh... ouchie. it hurts more than a booboo on a little pinky.
i now wish that my taste buds stay at my tongue. due to a stupid and hope-to-be-forgotten event just about an hour ago, i tasted spice in my eyes. chilli flakes to be exact. haha. burning sensation it was alright... haha.
today has been a productive day amongst all e days i studied this holiday. no. i'm not saying i slacked off this holiday only to leave study to the last week. studied with trent at the national library. haha. there were a number of occurences that would disrupt anyone who was in the mood of studying which probably equaled only trent and i there and chin hao and his friends that we happened to meet. haha.
just some of the things that WOULD tick you off...
1) a mindless idiot which = yobbo (as coined by MYRA) who suddenly blasted his music through his earphones and didn't realize it was so loud before trent made an attempt to write a LONG note to tell him kindly to lower his volume. only to be foiled by chin hao who put it direct in 5 words on trent's post-its and passed it to e guy. 'PLEASE LOWER VOLUME. THANK YOU.' haha.
2) the table next to ours suddenly screeching and laughing for no reason as though they were either tormented ghosts.
besides all this, had lunch at pepper lunch express at the food junction in bugis junction. and was discussing with trent about his blog posts which are ultimately hilarious cos he always seems to start writing nonsense halfway through unless he's particularly serious. haha. oh... and we were commenting about how chocolates got more expensive here and were so much cheaper in the EU in front of the chocolate section of Cold Storage. in the end, trent bought 2 TWIX (which are awesome!) and i got myself Van Houten's White Chocolate :)
CELTICS BEAT LAKERS IN 6 GAMES!!!
GAME 6 SCORE 131-92...
spent last night on the phone with 2 awesome best friends! han and marion! haha. other than that... i managed to catch up with kandace a little after not being really able to talk during YC cos everyone was all over e place. but then again... i'm still suffering from the POST YC withdrawal syndrome which is kinda of a lot worse considering that this year can be claimed as my last YC with all those mad bunch of pple. least i move up with trent, casey and han. alright man! u guys rock! next year YSA/SA and its gonna be just as great for sure.
anyway... what han said on the phone was so true. guys like me and him are so distraught by our interactions here and there and with
certain special pple that we suddenly find ourselves going through the scenario of what might happen in our minds over and over again (a no. brought up by han was 50 at least). and the problem is that we tend to become over-idealistic in our thoughts. and that's where when things don't go according to plan in real-life, we end up hurting and losing ourselves when things don't actually turn out bad. really stupid? yes. i'd tink so. haha. so right now... my one goal right now
- besides doing well for A levels and preparing for a possible mission - is gonna be suppressing all those thoughts so that i can rest easy and just be myself.

suntanning

casey looks irritated! haha.
thanks kandace!

together with my rocking bunkmates! :)
and the honors went to toa payoh ward today! we ruled cos we prepared the stake youth for a stunning night dancing away with the visuals of the jungle theme we came up with! and all in one day's planning! admit it... we just rock! :D
yes yes yes. as mentioned... post YC dance was fantabulously awesome-ish like and all. everyone partied and really tore the dance floor up over and over again. gee... no wonder it got so slippery after a while :D
jon and bobbie did a wonderful job in their face off btw brother and sister when no air was aired. great popping and hip-hopping guys! not to forget... everyone else for actively participating in the dance!
oh... and we promise that the next time round... there'll be plenty of slow songs to go around! so look forward to it!
weird incident of the day. the drinks dispenser broke and the fruit punch kept flowing and flowing! everyone was like... give me a cup! give me a cup! haha. then trent and i went on to gross others out and almost threw e remainder of e fruit punch on kandace! haha! ure just lucky this time kan! :D
i'm feeling alot better now! :)
its been more than a week since i've felt this way.
and everytime i think this way its hard.
thank you for reminding me where i stand.
thank you for helping me keep my standards.
you will know who you are if ure reading.
3 days 2 nights with the LDS youth. the days have been amazing thanks to the people who attended although i'd say the activities didn't match the potential YC spirit that have always lingered in the air on the past 3 occasions since 2005 when i attended. besides that... it was wonderful spending time with specific someone(s).
1st day: Mawaii Eco-camp (again)
Met at the stake centre at about 715am for the Stake President's Message before we were split into our groups and buses and were sent on our way. Didn't feel good when i realized that i had been shifted out of my original group (which was group2) which was Casey's group! And it didn't make things better that it meant i wasn't in Han's buddy group. And it didn't make things better that i wasn't in e same bus as Han, Marion, Trent and Casey. Least they didn't change the bunking arrangements and I had 2 great friends to bunk with: Trent and Casey :))) And least i had Surein and Arvie whom i could survive with in Group 7!
When we finally reached at 1230pm (behind schedule already), we were all brought across e river to the Mawaii Eco-camp for the day's activities. We were introduced to the camp warden Sutari and were briefed about the details of the camp itself. Groups 1-4 had lunch first while 5-8 had to wait at the long house till after 1-4 cleared the mess hall. I decided to go and sit throughout both lunch sessions anyway to catch some time with Han, Marion, Trent, Casey, Myra and Kandace. Han, Marion and Trent then decided to stay on for the 2nd lunch session to accompany me while Trent snacked on the fries I had piled onto my plate. haha.
Day 1 Games started. These were probably the best albeit the high volume of mud involved.
Group 7 started out with Dog and Bone with animal squeakers. It was one of those things that u'd put into ur bath tub when u were a little kid to accompany u while u bathed so that u could test for sharks. There were 6 of them and we'd had to pick them up. The main objective was to grab the starfish which was worth 5 points while the rest were undervalued at 1 apiece. Loads of crazy sliding to grab the animal squeakers resulted and it didn't help that it had already started to rain. haha. Next up was the Captain's Ball with a muddy sponge which also resulted in loads of diving but we had to be rooted to the ground on our knees.
Moving on to the mud volleyball (again), it was just like mawaii eco-camp all over again. It was here that many sunk into the potholes in the mud and fell till the water was up to their neck, and where many girls would scream and stick up their hands to hopefully protect themselves from the volleyball flying towards them. Besides that, picking up the ball was a nasty encounter when it fell into the bushes surrounding the mud pit. I fell at least 4 or 5 feet cutting myself into the process cos i didn't tink that there was a step down. Nonetheless, it was fun diving around although much of the action was between Kelson and me. haha.
Went to wash the grazes i got from my fall in the water at the obstacle course but was stopped by Kandace cos she insisted that i needed to get myself treated. Thus, grabbing my little pinkie to stop me from washing my wounds in the water and shouting for Bro. Lee for medical assistance. Subsequently, i was treated by Edlina who's a classmate in Institute before moving on to participate in the water obstacles course with my group. It was here that some people managed to conquer their fears and where many fell in the water on repeated attempts to cross the obstacles. haha. Finally, dinner came and it was time for us to leave to check into the resort we would be staying at. Following our checking in, we had a fireside by Bro. Choo who had just returned from his mission.
2nd day: Sutera Resort
We had the first of 2 workshops conducted by Bro. Oh on the theme of youth conference 'Steadfast and Immovable'. Following that we had games within our own groups. The most fun activity of the day was probably the only activity which was not planned. VOLLEYBALL! we played within the hall area where everyone actively engaged themselves sliding and diving to get the ball. It was particularly funny when shem and shemnon played. shem did splits (somehow) while shemnon who was the biggest sized youth amongst everyone chested the ball. what a sight. haha.
Lunch preceded the next workshop which was conducted by Pres. O'Grady and it paid much attention to the subject of 'Standing Strong amidst Trials'. Pres. O'Grady also made use of many different interesting and engaging examples to illustrate this to us amongst explaining his workshop to us. The talent show later drew many laughs from the creative juices of the youth and it was sure funny to see everyone participating actively and crazily. haha! Trent's group was especially funny! loved the act man! :D Group 7's skit was awarded the 'Spike me in the head! I love it' award for me getting spiked in the head so much i tink my brain died.
A water bomb game which saw the Priests go against everyone one else came later and finished within minutes. Everyone then congregated at the swimming pool where much wrestling was involved to get everyone wet and soaking in the pool. Besides that, there were also wrestling matches in the pool where 2 man teams (one on top of another's shoulders) attempted to push the others off. And then, it was time to prepare ourselves for dance amidst the time we had to chill-lax and have dinner.
It was sad that dance that night was a disappointment though there were signs of life. The music was all chosen wrongly to suit a group's wants rather than to suit everyone's, so it all boiled down to poor DJ-ing. That aside, i'm sure post-YC dance will save this from disappointment come friday. Spent much quality time with my 2 awesome friends Marion and Han after the dance :)))
3rd day: The last day @ Sutera Resort and Kota Tinggi Waterfall
Testimony meeting slowly warmed up to everyone as more people came up to share their testimonies and feelings. Most of them were from 'last-time' YC-goers like me. Gee... it was really emotional too. Thank you all for your great testimonies! Everyone then started to pour into writing testimonials for each other on the autograph pages of the YC file as we all knew the time together was about to end. Following that, we checked out of the resort after lunch to go to the waterfall where we chill-laxed in the cool environment. I really envied the rest cos they didn't fall sick and were able to enjoy themselves. After that, YC was officially over. *sigh* it could have been longer...
