chiangrai trip was the bomb man!
left last monday and came back on sunday.
the food was darn good too.
haha. the pickup rides were fun. i went high! haha. somehow...
ohoh. michael, martin and i wrestled each other at night and on the last morning. haha. i managed to floor martin! yes! haha. after learning some of the ropes from him from wrestling with him so much during the trip. haha.
it was during the trip that the names martina and benjamina were used alot. cos the girls marked us as part of the girls.
lucille went a little cuckoo it seems during the trip but she denies it.
i have been referred to as a 3-year old kid by the others esp tina, zhiyan and sophiana
i go 'yay!' and the kids go 'yay!'
there were also a lot of reflecting that we did every night. haha.
haha. dun worry... we're straight ok? dun get no ideas k...
first day was a sleepy one. woke up at 440am before taking martin's car to the airport. we had to pick up fifi from the cjc hostel on the way too. my church temple goers were also flying off that morning, but i missed them cos they went in so early to wait at their flight gate. shucks. anyway... we went to the burger king at terminal 1 since some of us wanted to grab breakfast. the flight to bangkok was quite lively considering that everyone was a little sleepy. haha. some of us even played a prank on martin by handing him sick bags. haha. he barfed so badly the last time he flew to cambridge because of some viral infection. haha. when we got to the bangkok international airport, the guys went walking around in one big group while the girls went in another group. haha. michael showed us around the whole of the international retail floor. there were 2 shops of whatever u could find there at either end of the floor. haha. we went like... 'hey! didn't we see this earlier?' and 'i tink we're lost'. truth be told all we did was walk straight. haha. it was really a mirror from end to end. then we walked back to the burger kind that was closely to our gate for lunch. we started playing poker at burger king until mr. tan found us and scolded us a little cos we were supposed to meet elsewhere but got too caught up with poker that we forgot. but it was thanks to ms. lim that it was only 10min after our supposed meeting time that we were stuck there playing poker. lucky she kept an eye on the clock or we'd be dead. haha. shared a meal with martin cos we both were kinda full for some reason. fried chicken and a go king size meal. haha. the transit was next. most of us fell asleep. it was only an hour's flight anyway. the customs were screwed up. the officers fondled some of us. disgusting lahh. when we got to chiangrai international airport, we went to claim our baggage. One of the bags we brought was soaked in dettol soap cos we had brought bottles of dettol soap in it. haha. we almost threw away the bag but then sister bernard took it from us and said she'd use it after washing it. we were crammed into vans and first made our way to a nearby shopping centre to have our late lunch. haha. paid 100 baht for a stupid plate of chicken rice? haha. the shopkeepers didn't understand me. i just told them i wanted the chicken thigh plus rice and hell did they overcharge me. what the hell man. but i didn't pay actually. it was paid for by sister bernard cos she got us cards to buy food and so i finished up the whole card. a hundred baht! oh man. everyone else paid around 30 baht or sth. haha. anyway... i returned the cash to make up for it. oh... and i drank one whole 32oz cup of chocolate. it was really CHOCOLATE! haha. i really went high. later we went to the supermarket to buy water and some snacks along with that. how stupid is this. when i walked in the security sensors beeped? haha. damn suay lahh. hahaha. then mr. tan offered to carry my bag while us guys went in to get e stuff. he stayed outside while we walked around quite leisurely for a while. hahaha. then michael and i made a little trip to the arcade with half an hour left to spare. haha. we initially intended to go to the toilet to relieve ourselves. haha. but then we somehow walked to the arcade and played daytona and some shooting game. haha. so retard. then we walked back to the meeting place. then we were told to go to the toilet. it was at that time that we remembered that we actually wanted to go to the toilet. haha. i tink our bladders were selective about when to piss. haha. when we told mr. tan that we went to the arcade... he gave us one of his moments. haha. then we sat in the van for a 2 hour ride before reaching the wiang kaen mission home. it was already so dark so we were shown to our dormitories. the kids had already been asleep since 830pm. it was only 10pm so because of our being used to sleeping late we stayed up playing poker using another 2 decks as the credits.

next day we woke up really early. no thanks to the alarm of ivan which rang at 330am for some odd reason. oh... and we learnt overtime that the rooster there had some weird body clock cos it started crowing about 2am. haha. we all completely got up from bed at about 5am when we did our first and last morning. the girls were still in bed at that time. when we were running around the basketball court, the children stared at us. haha. they probably thought how stupid we were running circles around the court. haha. the little children also greeted us when they were getting ready to go to school. haha. they went 'sawadika!' we had our first taste of farm work. we were driven in open air pickups. the breeze was fantastic riding in the pickups. the scenery was also breathtaking. haha. when we got to the farm site, we had to walk quite a bit before we got to the place where the farmers designed to thresh the grain stalks and pluck out the remainder grain after threshing was done. haha. some of us also got our first taste of peeing in the open. haha. oh! we also had some oranges while we worked. haha. they were good! our trip back was just as fun as the trip there. we had lunch where we first met up with some of the children that we were going to be with for the next few days. michael and i were paired up with e older boys. haha. they were about our age... some even older. haha. then we went for another farming session. we went to the fields to collect the stalks had been cut. michael and lucille got really bad skin rashes. haha. it was really itchy. oh... it was also during this time that clara got her shoe stuck in the mud twice. haha. so she left her mark in chiangrai in mudprints. haha. martin too but only once. haha. then it was back for dinner and a late bath at night. bad mistake. we learnt how cold it was. the girls knew about it and had bathed earlier before dinner while us guys chillled too much. haha. another poker session at night. haha.
the next morning we woke up. we started playing soccer with the children. haha. some of them are really pro. but if u could imagine soccer being played by a total of about 30+ children at the basketball court. haha. the girls didn't play. they cheered on the guys. haha. it was a stampede. haha. then we played a singapore thailand match. haha. so it was 8 guys versus 30+ small little boys. in the end, the match ended in a 0-0 draw cos we failed to hit the basketball hoop post though we did succeed to get close enough. then we got down to chopping wood. for the guys at least. the girls were to do weeding. haha. so we collected wood and chopped wood too. haha. we used machetes. to chop the wood. haha. the kids taught us e proper way to do it. they're really expers at it. haha. anyway... we had a hell lot of fun during this activity. we even tried to break the logs after chopping half way by stepping on them with some success :):):) then we helped the girls with the weeding before we hit the canteen for lunch. the first interactive activity was next. my group which was led by lucille held our first activity. the others were martin, charmaine and shijing. this was how it went. we organized e activity such that the children were to design and decorate their own jotter book cover page. we gave each of them each a goodie bag before then. then the next was michael's group activity. ultimate frisbee. haha. we were to put to shame when we played them. haha. owned 5-1 cos we didn't want to go serious. haha. then we gave out prizes for the best decorated jotter book cover pages. haha. we also gave each of them quite a number of sweets which they downed quickly. haha. then we went to play a little basketball while the children bathed. then we went to take quick baths before dinner not wanting to wait for ourselves to freeze off for another night. we had dinner with them later on. later on the next of michael's group activity was entanglement. haha. it was so funny. michael and my group were really pro at it. they finished untangling themselves in record time during the competition. haha. our oic shijing thought we were helping them cheat... which we really didn't. she took us out of the activity and with that it still continued with our group winning anyway. haha. u really should have seen them. they were like ninjas or something. haha. the next activity was simon says. haha. martin, michael and me led this activity with all the actions. haha. it was really fun! i tink the children also kinda loved us since that day with all the fun. haha. then the night ended at 1030pm. the children were allowed to stay up cos it was the king of thailand's birthday the next day. yet again, another poker session later on.
the next morning... we weeded the remainder of the compound of the home. haha. during so... we also picked flowers. haha. gave some to the girls too. haha. u should have seen martin. he picked a bouquet for weiqi for fun. haha. it was a really comical moment when he went to give it to weiqi but she was so embarrassed and rejected it. then martin gave it to sister bernard. haha. she joked about how he gave it to her after being rejected by a young small girl like weiqi. haha. michael and i chopped down our first tree during this time also. haha. we used the two man saw to do so. haha. it was real fun. mr. tan had told us to go help out with chopping the tree. emily gave me a big yellow flower. haha. then they said to put it in my hair... and so everyone learnt that i looked like a girl. haha. yeah... dun worry... there are some pictures. haha. washed up the tools and went for lunch. then we went and planned for our performance for the cultural night on the last night. mainly we sang and did mass dance. then we went and played basketball a little before we went to a nearby pasar malam where we stocked up on snacks. dinner was followed by playing some of the games that the children loved. zero point, limbo and skipping were some of these. haha. managed to jump clear of a damn high hurdle which was at about the height of my chest level. haha. martin cartwheeled past it. the hurdle was just a stretched rope made of rubber bands. then we had another activity by yuhao's group which consisted of kathleen, fifi, weiqi and eric. they played this game called blindfold. haha. the children were blindfolded and were supposed to find each other by making the same animal sounds as each other amongst all the groups making their own individual animal sounds. later on... we did the chicken dance and friendship dance at the same time. the day ended at 830pm yet again. haha. poker.
friday. we did some weeding again at a nearby field where they grew pineapples on the sides too. during this we found the remains of some animal. haha. we decided it looked like a wild boar or a pig's jaw. we also took down some trees again. haha. then we also had a taste of the sugarcane which was grown there too. i got the job of peeling the sugarcane of its skin. man... it was really damn sweet. haha. then we had lunch followed by another planning session for our performance for the cultural night which would be done on the last day. martin and i managed to choreo 1 min 5 sec of our dance before then. the 2 of us were supposed to perform it before the skit which involved everyone. and the theme of the skit was christmas. haha. the guys became elves. we had to duck walk the whole time through the skit rehearsal to make ourselves short. haha. we would have to do it again the next day during the cultural night. haha. e rest played a little basketball before we went for our baths. my group didn't cos we had to prep for the activity later on. then there was dinner. my group's 2nd activity was next. the children were to decorate their own paper plate photo frame. we took group pics which later on we printed with my classmate's photo printer. (thanks valerie!) martin and i choreod a little more of the dance during that time. haha. that night... only lucille, martin and i were left at night awake printing the photos. we printed e stuff at the teachers' lodgings. man. they had nice accommodation. the night sky was so clear that night that we decided to sit out and watch the stars. so we gathered our sleeping bags and met each other at the middle of the basketball court and lay there for almost an hour before we went back in. lucille wanted to sleep so she had to go back to the dorm since she was the only girl. so martin and i felt it only right to go back and sleep in our dorms too. haha. the 3 of us slept only one hour that night. cos we had to wake up at 330am to prepare to climb mt. puchifa.
yeah... so we went to climb mt. puchifa. okok. not really climb. we actually were driven most of the way. haha. then we walked up a short distance. man. there were a lot of people who also went to catch the sunrise there. haha. it was the start of a hell of a camwhoring session. haha. everyone started taking pics with each other like crazy. man... the scenery was a whole lot better than the scenery when we went farming on the first day. it was during this time that sophiana and i challenged each other in running down the slope only to stop short when it got really slippery. haha. if we started rolling down, everyone would get bowled over till the foot of the slope. haha. also... martin, michael and i came up with a name for ourselves. memyselfandi. haha. me is michael. myself is me as in benji. and i is martin as in martin. confusing enough? haha.
then we got back slightly after breakfast and had a later breakfast than the children. samuel's group organized captain's ball for the children. and they were split into 5 groups to play against each other. it was really a fun time for time. yuhao's group taught some english phrases to the children after which there was a competition of memory work. haha. we also went to visit a village of the mong tribe. haha. it was a village that some of the children came from. haha. we gave out sweets to the inhabitants there. we were not welcomed by some of the big dogs in the villages. haha. we tried to cross through some path but we were blocked wen we encountered 3 huge dogs. no fair! i was right in front of everyone. it was like a 3-on-1. haha. one dog would probably be bad enough. but 3?! haha. no joke...
then we went back when we had some free time. martin and i finished up choreographing our dance for the cultural night before we joined the rest for basketball. haha. it was the roughest basketball session. shijing got violent and almost killed ivan kicking him in the groin. haha. and she even gave kathleen a nosebleed. oh man... little girls have violent tendencies. then we took a bath before mass and cultural night. haha. man... the children did up a good performance compared to ours. but they probably had much more preparation compared to us. haha. though martin and i came up with a hip hop dance. they really impressed with their own version. haha. so yeah... us singaporeans got ponned by the thais during this eventful cultural night. we exchanged gifts too. it was a really hyped up cultural night. the children treated our performances like a rock band concert. stretching out their hands to grab ours as we passed them. it was really cool. haha. oh... did some stunts but failed when i attempted a head spin. busted my knees. but i can still walk. haha. night ended well... some of us went to star gaze. told them not to waste their time cos it was a cloudy night. in the end they just ended up chatting in the hall for a long time and slept there. haha.
man. i really miss the children there. when we about to leave... they started sobbing. they had already started to the on the the day prior to our departure. martin was tinking about why there got so close to us during the short time we were there... why we wouldn't actually know. we can only guess.
it has been during this trip that i've learnt more about the people i have spent time with. martin, michael, lucille, yuhao, weiqi and kathy are some of them whom i spent most time. sophiana, tina, zhiyan too. man... the trip was really darn fun! shucks... time passes by too fast when ure having fun. anyway... to the group whom i went to chiangrai with. thank u all! charmaine, lucille, fifi, kathleen, zhiyan, tina, shijing, jessica, weiqi, clara, sophiana, emily, martin, michael, ong, yuhao, eric, ivan and sam. u guys rock! :D thanks for everything again! the time we spent together was fantastic. we all need to go back there again next year! thanks to mr. tan jek suan, the ultimate jek-er, tan-er, and suan-er and ms. elaine lim the amazing teacher who ran a half marathon and got third in the local women's event this year.

friday. we did some weeding again at a nearby field where they grew pineapples on the sides too. during this we found the remains of some animal. haha. we decided it looked like a wild boar or a pig's jaw. we also took down some trees again. haha. then we also had a taste of the sugarcane which was grown there too. i got the job of peeling the sugarcane of its skin. man... it was really damn sweet. haha. then we had lunch followed by another planning session for our performance for the cultural night which would be done on the last day. martin and i managed to choreo 1 min 5 sec of our dance before then. the 2 of us were supposed to perform it before the skit which involved everyone. and the theme of the skit was christmas. haha. the guys became elves. we had to duck walk the whole time through the skit rehearsal to make ourselves short. haha. we would have to do it again the next day during the cultural night. haha. e rest played a little basketball before we went for our baths. my group didn't cos we had to prep for the activity later on. then there was dinner. my group's 2nd activity was next. the children were to decorate their own paper plate photo frame. we took group pics which later on we printed with my classmate's photo printer. (thanks valerie!) martin and i choreod a little more of the dance during that time. haha. that night... only lucille, martin and i were left at night awake printing the photos. we printed e stuff at the teachers' lodgings. man. they had nice accommodation. the night sky was so clear that night that we decided to sit out and watch the stars. so we gathered our sleeping bags and met each other at the middle of the basketball court and lay there for almost an hour before we went back in. lucille wanted to sleep so she had to go back to the dorm since she was the only girl. so martin and i felt it only right to go back and sleep in our dorms too. haha. the 3 of us slept only one hour that night. cos we had to wake up at 330am to prepare to climb mt. puchifa.
yeah... so we went to climb mt. puchifa. okok. not really climb. we actually were driven most of the way. haha. then we walked up a short distance. man. there were a lot of people who also went to catch the sunrise there. haha. it was the start of a hell of a camwhoring session. haha. everyone started taking pics with each other like crazy. man... the scenery was a whole lot better than the scenery when we went farming on the first day. it was during this time that sophiana and i challenged each other in running down the slope only to stop short when it got really slippery. haha. if we started rolling down, everyone would get bowled over till the foot of the slope. haha. also... martin, michael and i came up with a name for ourselves. memyselfandi. haha. me is michael. myself is me as in benji. and i is martin as in martin. confusing enough? haha.
then we got back slightly after breakfast and had a later breakfast than the children. samuel's group organized captain's ball for the children. and they were split into 5 groups to play against each other. it was really a fun time for time. yuhao's group taught some english phrases to the children after which there was a competition of memory work. haha. we also went to visit a village of the mong tribe. haha. it was a village that some of the children came from. haha. we gave out sweets to the inhabitants there. we were not welcomed by some of the big dogs in the villages. haha. we tried to cross through some path but we were blocked wen we encountered 3 huge dogs. no fair! i was right in front of everyone. it was like a 3-on-1. haha. one dog would probably be bad enough. but 3?! haha. no joke...
then we went back when we had some free time. martin and i finished up choreographing our dance for the cultural night before we joined the rest for basketball. haha. it was the roughest basketball session. shijing got violent and almost killed ivan kicking him in the groin. haha. and she even gave kathleen a nosebleed. oh man... little girls have violent tendencies. then we took a bath before mass and cultural night. haha. man... the children did up a good performance compared to ours. but they probably had much more preparation compared to us. haha. though martin and i came up with a hip hop dance. they really impressed with their own version. haha. so yeah... us singaporeans got ponned by the thais during this eventful cultural night. we exchanged gifts too. it was a really hyped up cultural night. the children treated our performances like a rock band concert. stretching out their hands to grab ours as we passed them. it was really cool. haha. oh... did some stunts but failed when i attempted a head spin. busted my knees. but i can still walk. haha. night ended well... some of us went to star gaze. told them not to waste their time cos it was a cloudy night. in the end they just ended up chatting in the hall for a long time and slept there. haha.
man. i really miss the children there. when we about to leave... they started sobbing. they had already started to the on the the day prior to our departure. martin was tinking about why there got so close to us during the short time we were there... why we wouldn't actually know. we can only guess.
it has been during this trip that i've learnt more about the people i have spent time with. martin, michael, lucille, yuhao, weiqi and kathy are some of them whom i spent most time. sophiana, tina, zhiyan too. man... the trip was really darn fun! shucks... time passes by too fast when ure having fun. anyway... to the group whom i went to chiangrai with. thank u all! charmaine, lucille, fifi, kathleen, zhiyan, tina, shijing, jessica, weiqi, clara, sophiana, emily, martin, michael, ong, yuhao, eric, ivan and sam. u guys rock! :D thanks for everything again! the time we spent together was fantastic. we all need to go back there again next year! thanks to mr. tan jek suan, the ultimate jek-er, tan-er, and suan-er and ms. elaine lim the amazing teacher who ran a half marathon and got third in the local women's event this year.

last trg before one week break was on thursday. FINALLY... guys' attendance was more than 6 . well... 7 in all. haha. all of us FINALLY managed to do some formation training. girls had their own training combined with the Yishun Sec pple. then they went over to Yishun Sec for their second trg session after lunch.
met Sam Lee on the way to lunch. haha. how coincidental :):):)
ocip packing ytd. reached sch late cos i was getting scolded for something i didn't do. but oh well... nvm. haha. did our reflections in the dance room before packing all the stuff outside the PE teachers' room. We finished around 1+ before lucille, martin, yuhao and i went to taka to have lunch. haha. lucille was being cornered by questions from martin and yuhao. haha. that day... lucille's unreliable panel of judges for her friend's birthday gift were: Martin, Yuhao and I. haha.
tried to look for bicycle decks but e shop at park mall shifted already. sad. haha. managed to get e decks from meridien. found it out from crenshaw.
oh... and thanks val! for lending e portable photo printer.
oh... and i met keefe on my way home today. haha.
